Superman Returns: The Argonaut Interview

Well, I saw the movie, Superman Returns on Saturday.  I really liked it and suggest you see it, if you haven't already!  If you haven't seen it yet.....

Spoiler Alert!!

Spoiler Alert!!

Details about Superman Returns

will be revealed!!

Ok, you've been warned.  I decided to interview Dan and a friend of ours, Derek about the movie.  Derek is the writer of the "Sam the Bunny" cartoons which will be featured on this very website in the near future. Here's the interview, tell me what you think!  DG is Dan and DD is Derek.. I am Q.

Q:  In the "airplane" scene, when Lois Lane was being tossed around the cockpit at incredible speeds, free-falling with and without gravity, and being pummelled by items such as luggage and bags of peanuts and then emerged without a single scratch or bloodied part AND with near perfect hair, did you get the impression the writers were watching a lot of A-team?

DG:  Believe it or not, I have never watched an episode of A-team.  But I have seen every episode of Max Headroom.

DD:  I think the writers and filmmakers were staying true to Lois Lane’s unflappable nature.

Q:  What did you think of Lois Lane’s son’s hair?

DG:  I thought it was a little odd that the son of two professional newspaper people, who are probably making more money than any of us, could not afford a barber for their child.   OR… there just aren’t any pediatric barbers in Metropolis.

DD:  It annoyed me, and reminded me throughout the 90’s while watching Home Improvement, that throughout each episode all I wanted to do was cut those little b@#$!%&’s hair.

Q:  Did you feel distracted by the scene in which one of the old lady’s dogs was eating the other?  So distracted, in fact, that you missed the next couple of possibly very important sentences Lex Luther was saying as they walked into the basement?

DG:  No.  I thought that was one of the coolest parts of the movie.

DD:  Not the scene itself, but people’s horrified reactions to it… that I couldn’t help but watch.

Q:  Can you compare the evening dress worn by Lois Lane in the movie, and the one worn by the Lois Lane Barbie doll?

DG:  No, I haven’t really paid that much attention to either of them.  I was too fixated on Jason Lane’s hair.

DD:  No.

Q:  In the original Superman movies, Lois Lane had relatively straight hair.  In the movie, they decided to go for a wavy effect.  What do you think about that?

DG:  I think the original Lois Lane in the 1950’s TV series had curly hair, and it could be an homage to that Lois Lane…. OR because Kate Bosworth is actually blond, and they had to dye her hair, maybe it looked really crappy and the only way they could fix it was to curl her hair.

DD:  Honestly, I really don’t know what it meant in terms of a changing perspective on the character, but I thought it looked damn good.

Q:  Do you think her hair change was a metaphor for her life changes over the past 5 years and she got a perm, or do you think it was the only way they could get Kate Bosworth to play the role?

DG:  I don’t think they gave it that much thought.

DD:  From what I understand, it was a wig.

Q:  Did you notice a resemblance to the way Jason Lane dressed in the movie, and the way Jimmy Olson dressed…. You know… nerdy?

DG:  No, I thought they both dressed quite finely.  I really liked that kid’s sweater vest.

DD:   What you interpreted as nerdy, I interpreted as “little kid.”

Q:  Do you think the actor who played Jimmy in the movie accurately portrayed the sense of accomplishment and pride the character felt after finally taking “good” pictures of Superman?

DG:  Either that or he was about to pee himself when the giant Daily Planet came crashing to the ground.

DD:  No.  Jimmy was the only real disappointment in the movie, a lot of other people could have done better things with that role.

Q:  Why do you think the editor’s decided to show us that?  Was it integral to the plot?

DG:  I wouldn’t say it was integral to the plot… but it was entertaining.

DD:  Was it integral to the plot, no.  But if Jimmy was played by a more skilled actor, you wouldn’t have to ask that question.

Q:  I’m not going to ask why everyone in the world doesn’t see that Clark Kent is Superman… But why do you think that Jason was the only one who could?

DG:  Because he’s not old enough to buy into the totally ridiculous notion that we have all been suckered into that by putting on a pair of eyeglasses you can completely conceal your identity.  When I take my glasses off, the only one who can’t see me, is me!

DD:  The answer is simple:  Jason know who baby daddy is.  Papa can’t fool son!!

Alrighty then…. That concludes my interview… hope you enjoyed it!
