Welcome to the first installment of Siren's Call

My name is Liz and I am the sole Argonette of Argonaut Comics.  (No, "Argonette" is not a doo-wop band, but just my made-up word for a female Argonaut)  Since we never did an "About Us" part to this website, let me fill you in!  Argonaut Comics is the brain child, and long time dream of Jason and Dan.  They met about 11 years ago when Dan went to work for Jason in his first comic book store, "Big Buddah's Comics and Collectibles."  Many years and many life events later, I met Dan.  Most people who know us say that Dan and I are "meant for each other" but I suspect the initial attraction on Dan's part was to my collection of Star Trek stuff!  And here we are now, doing comic book shows, toy fairs, and working on this cool website!  Any of you who have seen us at shows knows that we are trying to bring you different and unusual items that you can't find anywhere else.  I know everyone says that, but we mean it!   Since we've had over 300 hits since May, either you like who we are and what we're doing, or Jason's son (hi Josh!) checks out our site 3 times a day!

So what is this page about anyway??  Well, it's my place to write whatever I want!  It's sort of a journally, bloggy page about my observations, ponderances and musings as a female who married into the comic book world and all it's insanity.  Why "Siren's Call"?  Jason came up with that name (by the way, get it... Jason and the Argonauts?).... let's think about this.  A siren was a sexy little thing that sang so seductively she lured sailors off their course and to their deaths on the rocks.  Ok... I can live with the sexy thing... and I do sing around the house.  I suppose if someone actually heard me sing, it could lead to death through an ear drum explosion (just ask Dan).  I can't sing very well, average I guess.  I figure if I"m going to not be good, I should be very bad... I can hit a note that makes Dan's teeth hurt.  Hey, you should put 100% into everything you do right?  It is not my intention to cause any physical harm to anyone who reads this page... just to keep you informed and hopefully make you smile every once in a while.  And if you hate this page, there are lots of other cool things to look at!

I want to say a very huge THANK YOU to everyone who stopped by our booth at the Big Apple Comicon last weekend.  We appreciate all the feedback and interest you showed in our work!  Dan has never been to New York, or any "big city" for that matter and he and I both agree that were he ever to be lost or alone in New York, it is very likely that he would be found in the fetal position on the sidewalk somewhere.  Me, on the other hand, I loved it!  I both loved and hated driving in New York city.  I hated the fact that I got my mental grid all twisted and kept passing up the streets I meant to turn down.  I hated that it took us about an hour to get from Penn Plaza on 34th and 7th to our hotel on 24th and 6th!!  Yes... an hour.  Really.  BUT I loved the fact that I could drive like a maniac and fit right in!  What lanes?  What turn signal?  Want to go somewhere... just go!  He who hesitates gets stuck behind a stopped cab and a double parked car!  We had several people ask us if we would be at the huge NJ show... we are definately considering it and probably will go.  Keep a lookout either here or on the home page for confirmation.

For any local folks, we will be at the Tadmore/Akron show on the 16th.  (see "links" and go to the comic shows link to get the time and actual place)  We will also be at the Pittsburgh Toy Show (again, see the link to get the official name and place and time) on the 29th-30th.  We will actually have toys at this show!  Unconfirmed rumor has it we might have some pretty old, pretty pristine Star Wars toys for the PA toy show.  I'm hoping that next week we will have toys on the website for you to purchase.  By the way, if you have any comments, questions, concerns or suggestions, please email us!  But keep in mind that Dan not only does EVERYTHING on the website, creates all the promotional items, creates some of the Superfreeks, fills requests and works on about 10 different artistic projects at once, he also has a "real" job.  So if things are slow in coming, blame him!

I guess that's enough for now... but don't worry, I have lots more to say!  But it's late and tomorrow we are going to see Superman Returns!

Thanks for reading!

Liz
